The sight of jyotirlingom, which is unique to this shrine only, redeems the human individuals from all the wordly anxieties and sins. It is believed to be the head of Lord Shiva, whereas the body part is believed to be in Kedar Nath of India. This fact alone accounts for how scripturally significant the shrine of Pashupati Nath is.
Pashupati Nath temple is construed to have been a heritage of antiquity. There are sculptures in the temple premises, which were made as early as fourth century A.D. Thousands of devotees queue up for just a glimpse of the Lord everyday, but on the occasion of Shiv Ratri the number crosses a million. Besides, there are temples of Lord Ram, Lord Bhasmeswor, Goddess Guhyeswori, Vatsaleswori, Bajreswori and Banakali in its vicinity.
